My father's family is French Canadian, which is why I named this song in an unconventional way. My husband says this song sounds more Russian, though: a gritty, despairing sadness with the prettiness of several harmonies. I don't have much info about it as it was sent to me, but you gotta love anyone who can bring a tuba, accordion, and a barbershop quartet, into a punk song. Seriously.

One of my favourite songs; very Shrek, very romantic, very emotional. I wrote this without access to an orchestra -- well, do YOU have one? -- so it's up to you to imagine it as played by real musicians :) I do hope to have it recorded one day in a studio with a string section and piano player... and maybe work on a version or arrangement of this for a film soundtrack.
This song conveyed an elegant naughtiness to me: an older woman, recently widowed, rich, slinking down her mansion's staircase to her gigantic ball in her honour, grinning slyly at the young suitors who thought her an easy mark. I can almost see the smirk on her face. I couldn't think of a title that give this lady justice; in the end I decided that she was just herself, and nobody's widow.
