House Fire

this made me tear up just looking at the pictures. I could never imagine something like that happening to my house. My prayers are with whoever lived there. It sounds like you have a very strong community.
omg how terrible.

glad to hear no one got hurt.

Looks like my video and photos will be featured in the region's media.

Thank you, Elyse, and Lady M. ~hugs~
OMG... the Deputy Firechief just called me and wants copies of all the photos!
My heart goes out to them.
as unkind as it may seem to say it, the house and treasured things they lost are nothing compared to what it would be like to lose one of their loved ones.
It only sounds unkind to people who don't understand. In spite of the loss of material possessions, they are very lucky. But they will need to replace the things they have lost. Is anyone working on organizing that? It's a huge job, but needs to be done.

The best way to handle it would be for someone to help these poor people come up with a list of the things they will be needing (this will change over time as they add things to it and figure out they don't really need stuff they thought they did) and then work to help find those things. Friends and neighbors will want to make donations, but it's important to get that coordinated so these people don't find themselves saddled with 40 toasters and no plates.

Once a list is drawn up, have people pledge to donate these items. If they can hold their donations until a new place to live has been secured it will be a big help. Some items (like clothes) will be needed right away, but furniture and such will need to wait until they move into their new place.

And they'll need help with the moving. They are going to be very fragile for quite a while. Tasks that require little or no thought on normal days can be more than they are capable of handling right now. But that doesn't mean they should be left out of the loop. They need to have a sense of power and control over their lives right now, but they also need a strong net underneath to catch them when they fall (and they will).
[this is good]
wow, that is absolutely terrible!! they will be in my families thoughts and prayers!
WOW, what a tragedy. I hope that if I am ever in the situation you were with your kids I can handle it as well.
